The Mayors a Square - Live Music and Law and Order in Sydney - Written by Shane Homan.
This book was launched in mid June 2003 at the Hopetoun Hotel in Inner Sydney and among those singing its praises was Rob Hirst Midnight Oil drummer. Just like he said, this book has been incredibly researched and is presented in an academic format for those looking for a more serious look at the Sydney Live music scene. The book spans many eras from 1920's 'dance hall' to 'rocknroll' dances of the 50's through the 'pub rock' scene of the 70's and 80's.
It is a good serious read if you want to know what was behind the Live music scene in Sydney.
Shane is a rock muso and lecturer in media and popular music studies at the Uni of Newcsatle. He is also Chair of the Australia-New Zealand branch of IASPM, the International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
